Introduction to EKG

In this introduction, we focused on setting the tone for the entire EKG course and preparing you for the role you’re stepping into. Before learning about anatomy, lead placement, or rhythms, it’s important to understand that working as an EKG technician is both a technical and human responsibility.

Many students feel nervous at the beginning of this journey, and that’s completely normal. Working with patients—especially when it involves the heart—can feel intimidating at first. This course is designed to help you build confidence gradually, through understanding, repetition, and practice.

As an EKG technician, you’re often one of the first healthcare professionals a patient interacts with. How you communicate, how calm you appear, and how professionally you carry yourself can affect a patient’s comfort and trust. Patients may not understand the technical details of an EKG, but they remember how you made them feel.

This course emphasizes more than just performing a test correctly. You’ll learn how to approach patients respectfully, explain procedures clearly, and work as part of a healthcare team. Confidence doesn’t come from being perfect—it comes from preparation, awareness, and learning from experience.

The goal of this course is to help you develop both the technical knowledge and the professional mindset needed to succeed. You don’t need to know everything right away. What matters is your willingness to learn, practice, and take responsibility for the care you help provide.
